Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix, testiamo l’immagine

Da Ubuntu 9.04 «Jaunty Jackalope» verrà resa disponibile un’immagine dedicata alla famosa variante per netbook,  contenente tutte le personalizzazioni del desktop (già installate di default), che consentirà di  utilizzare il sistema in versione Live o procedere alla sua installazione.

Come potete vedere, ora è disponibile anche un semplice tool per passare dalla vista netbook a quella standard desktop e viceversa.

Per provare sul proprio netbook la futura Ubuntu, basta scaricare la daily snapshot da questo indirizzo e…

“E poi?? Come lo masterizzo un file .img??”

Il formato dell’immagine di Netbook Remix è differente dal tradizionale .iso, utilizzato per le immagini dei CD, e fu scelto proprio per facilitare la scrittura della stessa sulle periferiche USB (nello stesso formato vengono per altro distribuite le immagini di Ubuntu-MID, un’altra variante dedicata ai dispositivi mobili basati su processori Intel Atom).

Una volta scaricato il sopracitato file nella propria Home, per creare una pendrive avviabile sarà sufficiente collegarla a una porta, aprire un terminale e digitare ciò che segue:

sudo dd if=~/jaunty-netbook-remix-i386.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1024

Fate attenzione a sostituire /dev/sdb con il device corretto relativo alla stessa pendrive, in caso di errori potreste bruciare uno degli altri dischi installati sul sistema!

Concludo con una dritta per i possessori di un Acer Aspire One: all’avvio del sistema la connessione senza fili sarà inutilizzabile, per poterla utilizzare è sufficiente aprire un terminale e digitare il seguente comando:

sudo rmmod acer_wmi

      • Grazie per l’iinteressamento, il problema è che il pc è di mio fratello che vive in Italia e io sto in Giappone. Ieri gli ho consigliato di provare la 9.04 beta “standard” e vedere se così gli va. Domani lo sento di nuovo e se gli è andata va bene così, se ancora non va allora ti posto il lspci. Tanto dalla standard alla netbook remix alla fine non è che cambia moltissimo quindi non è che ho molte speranze ma non si sa mai.
        Ti farò sapere, grazie mille.

      • Grazie per la risposta,
        ero già a conoscenza di quel sito così come della distro easy peasy basata su ubuntu con la quale gli eeepc funzionano benissimo.
        Tuttavia sul sito array.org non è ancora disponibile il kernel per jaunty (basta aspettare).
        Probabilmente gli farò mettere o intrepid con quel kernel o easy peasy che funziona molto bene.
        La questione è semplicemente che ancora una volta sono rimasto un pò deluso da ubuntu, dato che la 9.04 doveva essere la distro dei netbook ma di fatto non è vero.
        E delle novità annunciate ci ritroviamo solo con un sistema di notifiche che funziona cosi cosi e solo con poche applicazioni. Sarei più contento se ci fossero meno parole prima, meno annunci di grossi cambiamenti prima, così non mi aspetterei grandi cose per poi rimanerne deluso in un secondo momento, e mi potrei gustare al meglio le modifiche e i tuning fatti.

  2. Grazie delle info, il giorno 3 ho acquistato uni Aspire One D150 ed il giorno dopo, cioè ieri, ho partizionato il disco ed installato Jaunty in modalità grafica.
    Ho avuto qualche difficoltà nell’installazione in quanto le pagine o “maschere” debordavano le dimensioni dello schermo, ma comunque ce l’ho fatta.
    Ha funzionato tutto al primo colpo, wifi compresa e pure la cam.
    Promette molto bene, attendiamo fiduciosi gli sviluppi.

  3. una domanda da ignorante: ma non è più semplice scaricarsi la ISO e poi installarla sulla penna USB mediante l’ottimo unetbootin?
